Dodgers Youth Baseball Camp presented by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation will hold two baseball camps this summer, June 25-28 and August 9, 12-14. Camp will feature daily instruction by members of the Dodgers Major League coaching staff and Dodger Alumni with special guest appearances by current Dodger players. Campers will learn about hitting, fielding, base running, throwing and pitching drills as well as team play, sportsmanship and conditioning. Enrollment is open to boys and girls, ages 7-12 as of the start date of camp session. All proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. Dodgers Launch Mathletics to the Dodgers Community of Schools
In May 2013, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation launched a new program, Dodgers Mathletics, a fun and engaging educational workbook for students to enhance and practice their math skills. Dodgers Mathletics promotes the importance of math to students in the first through eighth grade by offering a workbook filled with Dodger baseball related math exercises. The program consists of three different workbooks geared towards 1st-2nd, 3rd-5th and 6th-8th grades. This program is free to all schools. In its first year, ten schools located in the nearby Dodger community participated. Students who completed the workbook correctly received two ticket vouchers to a Dodger home game.

Vision to Learn
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has partnered with Vision To Learn, a non-profit organization which provides free eye exams and free eyeglasses to elementary school students in low-income communities throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. Vision To Learn coordinates with local schools and sends out optometrists and opticians to conduct free eye exams and fit children for free eyeglasses. Because the students pick out their own frames, it’s a fun experience for them. Kids can’t wait to receive their new glasses! Two weeks after the examination, Vision To Learn delivers kids’ free eyeglasses to their school.
On May 13th, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and Vision To Learn kicked off the program with a visit to Dorris Place Elementary School were Dodger Catcher A.J. Ellis and Dodger Pitcher Brandon League handed out new eyeglasses to students at their school.
As part of the partnership A.J. Ellis and Brandon League filmed a public service announcement about Vision To Learn and where featured on a Vision To Learn mobile eye exam vehicle that visits schools throughout Los Angeles.
Michael Douglas’ Wish Comes True – June 5, 2013
The Dodgers coordinated a wish fulfillment with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for 14 year old Michael Douglas from Wellsville, KS. Michael has lung disease and is primarily in a wheelchair, on oxygen and a feeding tube. Michael’s wish was to be a Dodger for day, watch batting practice and meet the players. The Dodgers provided Michael with a behind the scenes look at the clubhouse, training room and watching batting practice up close and personal. Michael was named an honorary Dodger and was given a locker and a uniform.
Memorial Day at Dodger Stadium – May 27, 2013
In honor of Memorial Day, the Dodgers joined all 30 clubs in wearing specially designed caps and jerseys featuring an authentic military digital camouflage design licensed from the United States Marine Corps.
American hero Dr. Buzz Aldrin threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Aldrin secured his place in history as one of the first men along with Neil Armstrong to set foot on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission on July 20, 1969. A graduate of West Point and a MIT doctorate, Aldrin was also a fighter pilot in the Korean War with 66 combat missions. As a military veteran he is passionate helping veterans. Aldrin signed copies of his book “Mission to Mars” until the end of the third inning at the Top of the Park store.
The Dodgers joined MLB in conducting a moment of silence prior to the game on Memorial Day to honor members of the military who lost their lives serving our country. The Memorial Day effort is part of MLB’s ongoing recognition of veterans, active military and military families.

A special message from General Martin Dempsey Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff coming from Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan led off pregame ceremonies. The Dodgers welcomed 50 members of the Wounded Warriors who paraded the warning track coming through center field. Founded in 2003, the Wounded Warrior project’s mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors and raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.
As part of MLB’s Tribute for Heroes initiative in which veterans have been nominated to represent all 30 clubs at this year’s All-star Game at Citifield on July 16, pitcher Clayton Kershaw presented a flag that will be framed and presented to the Dodgers’ Tribute for Heroes representative in New York. Starting June 9, fans can vote for the Dodgers’ hero representative by visiting http://www.tributeforheroes.com.
Uniformed members of each branch of the military along with USO Captains unfurled a giant American flag in center field.
Pros vs. GI Joe, a charitable organization started by retired military members Greg and Addie Zinone that provides scholarships to wounded warriors coordinated with a live feed with the US military base in Kandahar, Afghanistan for an all-stadium “Salute to the Troops.” Pro vs. GI Joe connects troops serving all over the world with professional athletes and celebrities in online and in-person game competitions.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant De’Jon Fruga from the 452nd mobility wing at March Air Force Base California will sang the national anthem.
In recognition for the sacrifice they make, several active troops joined the Dodger starters as they took the field to begin the game.
Dodgers-Angels Rail Series – May 27, 2013
On May 27th and May 28th, the Dodgers teamed up with Metrolink to promote the special Orange County Line train service (select Orange County train stations beginning in Oceanside) to LA Union Station and back so baseball fans could attend the Dodgers vs. Angels at Dodger Stadium. As part of this “Rail Series” promotion, the Dodgers in conjunction with Metrolink, Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) and the City of Fullerton hosted a Dodger Rally at the Fullerton Train Depot on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th from 2:00pm-3:15pm. The Dodgers activated its Dodger Blue Crew and engaged fans in fun activities including “Spin the Wheel”, “Pitching Inflatable” and “Autograph Session” with Dodger Alumni Kenny Landreaux. Hall of Fame Manager and Special Advisor to the Chairman Tommy Lasorda was also on hand to greet and take photos with the 300 fans who participated in this event. Other attendees at the event were Mike DePallo, CEO of Metrolink; Bruce Whitaker, Mayor of Fullerton; and Jennifer Fitzgerald, Fullerton City Councilmember.
Adrian Gonzalez’s “Viva Los Dodgers Days”
All-Star Dodger first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and his wife Betsy are partnering with various non-profit organizations to host families on Viva Los Dodgers Days each Sunday home game during the season. “Adrian Gonzalez’s Viva Los Dodgers Days” provides all-inclusive tickets and parking and access to Viva Los Dodgers and access to Kids Run the Bases for families in greater Los Angeles.
Dodgers Host “42” Screening in South LA – May 14, 2013
On Tuesday, May 14th at 11am the Dodgers hosted a screening of the film “42” at the Rave Theatres in Baldwin Hills for 200 students from Tom Bradley School & 59th St Elementary School in South LA. “Sweet” Lou Johnson was on hand to greet students as well as participating in a Q&A after the film. Tom Bradley’s daughter, Lorraine Bradley was also on hand to greet students.
Mother’s Day Honorary Bat Girl – May 12, 2013
On May 12, Mother’s Day, the Dodgers hosted one of 30 MLB Honorary Bat Girls. Sara Aguilera of Coto de Caza was chosen by a panel of celebrity judges who selected the honorary bat girls for each MLB club. The panel included Dodger outfielder Matt Kemp who greeted Sara in front of the dugout with a hug and congratulations.
Nominated by her parents, Sara, wife of John and mother of two boys, Jaden, 7 and Jordan, 5, found a lump in her right breast on April 30, 2012. She had a biopsy a week later and, received the diagnosis of stage 2 colloid carcinoma on May 8. She underwent a double mastectomy on June 8 and began her five-year-course of tamoxifen in July 2012.
Sara’s first reconstructive surgery was October 17 and she requires two more surgeries in the near future.
Less than one year since discovering her lump, Sara has founded a breast cancer awareness organization promoting self-examination, “Feel Yourself Up.” Through this organization, she plans to raise awareness about the importance of early detection through self-examination, and to raise money for those needing help with expenses of day-to-day life while fighting breast cancer.
Sara’s story of inspiration and strength embodies the message of hope behind “going to bat against breast cancer.”
Bike Ride to Dodger Stadium – May 11, 2013
On Saturday, May 11th, 2013, C.I.C.L.E., the Eastside Bike Club, Metro and the Dodgers kicked off Bike Week Los Angeles with a bicycle ride between two historic landmarks, Union Station and Dodger Stadium at Chavez Ravine to watch the Dodgers battle the Miami Marlins. Over 100 bicycle enthusiasts wore their Dodger Blue and rolled to the stadium to the sounds of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”! Upon arrival they were greeted by Hall of Fame Manager and Special Advisor to the Chairman Tommy Lasorda followed by a tour of Dodger Stadium.
