Mayor’s Angel City Toy Giveaway with Ned Colletti – 12/14

Los Angeles Rotary Club's Angel City ChristmasDodger General Manager Ned Colletti was on hand for the LA Rotary’s Angel City Toy Giveaway at Algin Sutton Recreation Center which is also the sight of a Dodgers Dreamfield. Colletti has donated his time for several years to help hand out toys and gifts to children at this holiday event. The Dodgers have donated blankets and other items in the past and this year provided backpacks, T-shirts and hats.

Adrian Gonzalez Takes Parts In East L.A. Winter Wonderland

For a second consecutive year Adrian Gonzalez purchased and donated more than 3,500 toys for children in the East Los Angeles community. Gonzalez attended the East L.A. On Ice Winter Wonderland to personally help children choose their toy. Gonzalez joined Supervisor Gloria Molina on stage to greet attendees and take pictures on the ice rink before handing out toys. Other attractions at the event included a visit from Santa Claus, piles of real snow for winter play, face-painting, magicians, holiday train rides, carolers, food vendors with holiday antojitos (tasty treats), arts-and-crafts and music provided by a DJ.

Dodgers Dreamfield Dedication at Roy Campanella Park – 12/14

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, in partnership with the LA84 Foundation and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation dedicated its 31st Dodgers Dreamfield at Roy Campanella Park. The Dreamfield dedication consisted of a brief program emceed by Dodger Broadcaster Jorge Jarrín followed by a one-hour long youth baseball clinic led by Dodger alumni Derrel Thomas, Dennis Powell, Wes Parker and “Sweet” Lou Johnson. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment provided each youngster with The Sandlot 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray + DVD Combo and T-shirt.

“Our family is honored that our father’s legacy will continue to live on through the park by providing inner city youth a place to play baseball. Dad always said to the play the game you have to have a little kid in you,” said Joni Campanella Roan. “He would be thrilled to know the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation has revitalized this park to become a Dodgers Dreamfield where kids can come to play, have fun, learn sportsmanship, teamwork and develop his love for baseball.”

Roy Campanella Park’s field includes newly restored backstop and fencing, newly painted posts and rails, new dugout roofs and outfield fence, a renovated infield surface with laser grading and new infield mix, new bases, amended infield and outfield radius to establish a uniform perimeter edge, laser grade and prep outfield for new sod, a renovated irrigation system and new solar scoreboard and signage.

Adrian Gonzalez visits Childrens Hospital Los Angeles

On December 11 following the Dodgers’ annual Children’s Holiday Party, Adrian Gonzalez joined PADRES Contra El Cancer’s “Season of Hope” to visit young patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Gonzalez handed out Dodger goodie bag of hats and t-shirts as well as toys donated by Mattel to patients and visited with patients’ families.

Adrian and his wife Betsy are supporters of the work of PADRES Contra El Cancer which is committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families.

Dodgers Kids’ Holiday Party – 12/11

LA DODGERS HOLIDAY PARTY

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Levy Restaurants and SKECHERS hosted more than 300 children from the community surrounding Dodger Stadium at the annual Children’s Holiday Party at Dodger Stadium. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez, bench coach Tim Wallach and wife Lori, and Dodger Alumni Billy Ashley, Tommy Davis, Al Downing, Al Ferrara, “Sweet” Lou Johnson, Kenny Landreaux, Matt Luke and Dennis Powell were all on hand to participate with the kids. Santa Claus was also a hit reading and taking photos with everyone.

LA DODGERS HOLIDAY PARTYGonzalez and Dodger alumni helped with arts and crafts, games, served lunch and distributed shoes during the event, ending with handing out toys to all in attendance.

12/10 – Puig’s Hospital Visit to CHLA

On December 10, Yasiel Puig was back in Los Angeles to spread some holiday cheer at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The Dodgers’ outfielder handed out goodie bags to patients, posed for photos and signed autographs. This visit followed a previous stop on Nov. 19 to the hospital with his friend, Laker Pau Gasol.

Ned Colletti and the Dodgers serve Thanksgiving meals with the Salvation Army

photoOn Wednesday, November 27, Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti and 20 members of the front office, joined The Salvation Army L.A. Red Shield Youth and Community Center at the LA Convention Center for a special Thanksgiving meal. The Dodgers along with City Year, Nickelodeon and many more volunteers from various organizations served turkey dinners with all the trimmings to approximately 2,000 low-income families from the Pico-Union area and surrounding communities.

Puig Brings Little Leaguers to Dodger Stadium – 11/18

On November 18, Yasiel Puig brought 50 little leaguers from Northeast Little League to Dodger Stadium for a clinic. They practiced on the field with Puig as the pitcher. Following the game they toured the clubhouse and the locker room followed by some hitting lessons in the batthing cage. The night was capped off with Dodger dogs in the Dugout Club. This group of players was the same group that he surprised by visiting them last month at their Little League field.

Disability Rights in Sports Award – 11/13

Los Angeles Dodgers receive the Disability Rights in Sports Award

The Los Angeles Dodgers were honored to receive the Disability Rights in Sports Award at a dinner on November 13 in Los Angeles. This award from the Disability Rights Legal Center recognizes the Dodgers for the recent improvements at Dodger Stadium. Transforming a 50 plus year old venue into a place that complies with ADA was a challenge but an important upgrade. The improved circulation, wider concourses, added ADA seating and accessible restrooms, have made Dodger Stadium more accommodating for all fans, especially those with physical challenges.

The award was presented by Joni Campanella-Roan the daughter of Roy Campanella and was accepted on behalf of the organization by Dodger Coach and former Dodger catcher, Steve Yeager. Also in attendance were Dodger alumni Tim Leary and Dennis Powell along with Dodger’s Senior Vice President of Planning & Development Janet-Marie Smith who was instrumental in renovations to the stadium.

Coca-Cola/Vallarta Supermarket Health Fair in Baldwin Park

Vallarta 1Vallarta Supermarkets and Coca-Cola are partnering with the Los Angeles Dodgers this summer to bring free health fairs to the community in Baldwin Park and select areas in the San Fernando Valley. Fair attendees will learn about the importance of calorie balance, moderation and physical activity.  Fair participants will enjoy free Zumba classes, health screenings and information, healthy food demonstrations, Coca-Cola beverage samplings and interactive games.

Vallarta 3On Sunday, June 16th, Dodger alumni Al “The Bull” Ferrara and Dodger Blue Crew engaged with fans at the Coca-Cola Health Fair at Vallarta Supermarket in Baldwin Park.  The Los Angeles Dodgers will be on site at select supermarkets with family-friendly activities, prizes and Dodger alumni who will meet and sign autographs for fans.
